Pendle ski club’s very own Charlotte Holmes has been selected to represent Team GB at the European Youth Olympic Festival in Friuli Venezia Giulia, Italty which takes place from the 21st to 28th January.

There is no national funding available for any GB Alpine athletes so Charlotte has to fund her own way to the games. As a result the club held a fund raising fun race at the slope on Saturday 14th January. Despite the Pendle weather doing it’s best to put people off, there was a good turnout of racers and volunteers. The racing, BBQ and raffle raised much needed funds to contribute towards the costs of entering this high profile event.

Charlotte obviously couldn’t be there on the day as she is still at her training camp in the Alps but she sent this heart felt message to everyone that had shown their support:

“Most of my core memories skiing have happened here at Pendle ski club from my first ever memories on skis being at the bottom of the nursery slope being told to jump like tigger on my little skis, to my first time to winning a gold medal, or the excitement of being told I was good enough to start race training. Having grown up at the club, skiing through every lesson, winter race league, training session, esskia races, club nationals,to now being a coach here and finding my own journey in ski racing feels like a pretty full circle moment. I have never really deepen and appreciated about how truly special this club really is and is hard to try explain to someone else that isn’t part of the community we have here. Coming together as a team to win the inter-club trophy a few years ago or everyone coming up to the club in the middle of the night for the 2018 and 2022 Olympics to support Dave are just instances that I can look back on to remind myself of the brilliant community we have here. I just want to take this time to apricate everyone here at the club today and those who can’t be here not just for supporting this event today but for being members of this club. Today I hope all the racers have enjoyed themselves like I have done for so many years and still do to this day, I hope that even if one child feels inspired by me or looks up to me as a skier, athlete or a coach then I will already feel accomplished. Again thank you to everyone that has come today to race, support or help set up the race, I hope I can bring back some good results from the games.”

If you weren’t able to attend the event but would still like to show your support for Charlotte, she has a GoFundMe page which you can access here
